Preventative Dentistry
The best way to avoid costly treatment is to have regular visits at the dental office. Regular recalls and radiographs are important in catching problem areas early, to prevent them from becoming larger problems. In addition, our hygienists perform periodontal assessments, an important screening tool to avoid potential tooth loss in the future. They also perform sealants on teeth with “deeper grooves” to help prevent future decay.

Oral Hygiene FAQs
Is it good to have your teeth cleaned?
Yes! Regular dental cleanings help remove the stubborn, bacteria-filled plaque and tartar from your teeth. If left for too long, this plaque and tartar can cause tooth decay, gum disease, as well as other serious damage.
What happens during a teeth cleaning?
Your dental hygienist will do a full periodontal assessment of your gums, noting any recession, periodontal pocketing, and mobility. The plaque and tartar will be gently removed from around your gum line and in between your teeth. Following this removal process with hand scalers and ultrasonic scalers, your teeth will be polished. At each visit, an oral cancer screening is performed.
Sealants
Dental sealants prevent 80% of cavities for 2 years, and 50% of cavities for 4 years.
With proper care, sealants can be retained in the mouth for up to 9 years and easily replaced.
School-age kids without sealants have 3 times more cavities than those with sealants.
The thin coating is painted on in liquid form and hardens in about a minute. That’s all there is to it!
